Stencil Techniques for Cards

Hi all! It's been another hot minute! LOL! It's taken me a few weeks to put together this video as I've been working around my 9-5 job as well as uploading more products loaded into my Etsy story and learning how to create YouTube shorts. It's all a bunch of fun but time consuming! 

That said, I am excited to share a new video and five new cards featuring background created with stencils. I am a huge fan of stencils and they are so much fun to use with a variety of products, from inks to sprays to pastes. All of the techniques shown in this week's video can easily be translated to art journals and scrapbook pages.

Creating Cards with Coordinating Layered Stencils & Embossing Folders

Hello friends and happy new year! Welcome back to another blog post! It's been a while and my goal of two videos per month has fallen to more like one per month. Someone remind me how I found the time to create more videos than I do now when I had two young children. *wink* I guess the 'ol 9-5 job really does take up a lot of my time. And at the end of the day, I don't have the same energy that I used to when I would hit the craft room and stay up until midnight. That person is much older and far more tired now. LOL!

Anyway, I'm super excited about my latest project, which features just one product...a layered stencil and 3D embossing folder set from Altenew. I am a huge fan of all things mushrooms and when I saw this set, I had to get it! I had a great time creating four different cards using just the set, some inks, markers, and embossing power. I would classify these as clean and simple - even though some of the coloring is a little time consuming - and are primarily one layer cards. Check out the video below to see how I created each card and for tips and tricks you can follow to create your own. The video discusses, Copic marker coloring, using blending tools and ink, a fun embossing technique, and creating a spotlight card.

Hello, friends, and welcome back to the blog! I'm super excited about this month's project, which features newly release products from Wendy Vecchi, used to create this sweet vertical mini photo album.

As soon as I saw Wendy showcase these dies on her Facebook page, I knew that I had to have them, especially after landing on the idea of creating a mini book or journal. The pocket die was released (by Spellbinders) a while ago and in mid-October Wendy released an add on set that included a front pocket design, the pocket insert, and more flowers and leaves. 

This was a super sweet project that came together fairly quickly - once I figure out how to make the cover (only took two tries! LOL!). I created a small album to showcase some of my recent hiking pictures, but this would be great for new baby pictures, a birthday, or even a mini journal. I plan to use the back of my inserts (photo on the front) to write some notes about each of our hikes. More pictures, a video, and list of products listed below. Enjoy!

Breakfast Buddies Card Set

Hi all and welcome back to another blog and video, featuring a darling new stamp set that was designed by Kristina Werner (she's a great designer!) A while ago, Kristina started designing for Concord & 9th and I have been loving her designs!

My challenge in using this sweet set is that it includes fairly small images, which is something that challenges my creativity. My preference is for a larger image that can either fill the majority of a card panel or be cut down and used in different ways. When the images are small, my mind goes blank. So, because I had to have this cute set, I decided to tackle my personal issue of wondering how to best use small stamps.

Hello strangers! If anyone is still reading my blog...I'm sorry for the extremely long absence! We moved (yes, again!) in February and thought that purchasing a home that needed a lot of work was a good thing. LOL! It's actually been good, but a very long process. We're mostly done with a decent renovation of our downstairs, which included a new kitchen, bathroom, and gutting of a living room area, and life is finally getting back to a fairly normal pace. I have a darling craft area in the new place, but crafting has taken a back seat to the other work that needed to be finished. While there is still a lot of organizing work to be done in the crafty area, I'm at least able to finally sneak in a bit of fun time. Stampotique Guest Designer - Birds and Bees Card

It's my last week as one of the Stampotique guest designers and I had such a great month! Thank you so much to Stampotique for offering me this spot. It's been a while since I've had time to be creative and this was the perfect reason to get inky. I had a wonderful time! And just a little FYI before I post my final project. I know it's been ages since I've posted on my blog. Almost two years ago I accepted a full-time offer for work and that has made it nearly impossible for me to find the time to create. On top of that, our family is moving yet again (it's a good thing!!) and my entire craft room is packed and will remain packed for a few months. On to today's project, which is supposed to feature birds and bees...but my card features butterflies and a place where you'd find birds and bees...that works, right?

I started my card by creating a background using Distress Oxide inks and water. I used a blending tool to apply the color and then spritzed on some water to create some fun texture.

I then used the Thinking of You stamp and Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to repeatably stamp the sentiment over the entire background, making sure to alter the location of the image so it wasn't in a straight line.

My pretty floral image was stamped on Neenah Solor White cardstock and colored with Copic markers. I did add some shimmer to the butterfly wings, but it's tough to see in photos. I ended up not using the sentiment I colored, but using the Love one instead, which was heat embossed on black cardstock using white embossing powders.

I fussy cut the floral image and popped it up on white cardstock for a little dimension. My main image was added to the card front with the sentiment and a few gems.

Concord & 9th Turn About Stamp Class - Butterfly Reflections

I'm excited to announce that I'm teaching another card class at Butterfly Reflections in Kingston, NH. All of the details are below...hope you can join us!

Join me for an instructive class focused on the Concord & 9^th’s Turnabout Stamp line. These versatile background stamps allow you to make beautiful multi-colored backgrounds with the use of only one stamp! During the class, I will demonstrate how to use these unique stamps and then walk you through the creation of four card backgrounds using a variety of products and techniques. If you own Turnabout Stamps, bring them along and learn how to use them in a new, fun, and interesting ways.

Supplies Needed for Class:

• Stamp positioner - must be full size Misti or mini Tim Holtz stamping platform
• Adhesive - glue, tape gun, and/or foam tape
• Heat gun (very important)
• Basic Toolkit - Non-stick craft sheet, scissors, baby wipes, paper cutter, bone folder
• Turnabout Stamps - If you have them....the more, the merrier!

Watercolor Techniques Class - Butterfly Reflections Ink

Hello long lost crafty friends! Wow...I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted on my blog. To say that life has been busy is an understatement! Spring is the busiest time of the work year for me and I have literally just finally resurfaced after a crazy few months. And I'm excited to share that I'm resurfacing with the announcement of a class that I'll be teaching at a new store in Kingston, NH. The store is named Butterfly Reflections (they're also online) and Vanessa (the store owner) just opened a few months ago. She has a darling space pack full of stamps, dies, inks, papers, and everything in between!

Watercolor Techniques

Join me for a card class featuring Distress Oxide Inks, Zig Clean Color Brush Markers, and stamps and dies from Altenew and Concord & 9^th. During class we’ll explore several watercolor techniques, such as creating backgrounds with the smoosh technique and no line watercoloring. Kim will also demonstrate how you can use Distress Oxide Inks to quickly and easily add color to outline images and using a water and brush to establish beautiful shading. We’ll also explore using Zig Clean Color Brush Markers to easily add a watercolor look to your stamped images.

The stamps and dies needed for the class will be provided for you. Please bring the following: (You can contact the store to purchase items, if necessary) The instructor will be bringing supplies to share:

• Non-stick craft sheet
• Small round brush, thin waterbrush (brush with water in barrel), vessel to hold water
• Liquid glue or another strong adhesive
•  Foam tape
• Heat tool
• Baby wipes and/or paper towels
• We will be using Copic markers on one card so if you have the markers, feel free to bring along a purple, teal, olive green, yellow, and pink shade.

Distress Oxide Backgrounds Featuring Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

Greetings friends! Welcome to the newest release from Sweet 'n Sassy! This month we have release six new stamps sets and some brand new printables (these are SO cool!). (I'll be sharing my printable project next week!)
