Hello, my crafty friends! Welcome to a blog post that is not connected to a design team project! LOL! Oh my, most of my posts over the past few months have been dedicated to only design team projects. It's been a busy time and I haven't had much time to craft. However, when Wendy announced her newest embossing powders, and I got my hot little hands on them, I knew that I had to take some time to create just for fun!
In addition to the fun I had playing with the new embossing powders, I also created a video sharing a fun and easy technique combining embossing powders and stencils. This is a great way to use your stencils in a new way and create beautiful high-gloss backgrounds, embellishments, and mat minis.
View the video below and check out product links below the video. Enjoy and happy crafting!

Hello crafty friends! Kim here with you today to share a set of greeting cards that I created using a few Joggles stamps and one of my all-time favorite stencils. I also grabbed my Distress Oxide inks to create these simple but colorful backgrounds. Lastly, I used a double masking technique to create each of these cards. A circle mask allowed me to add ink to the card front while leaving a white circle in the center of each card, and using the negative space from the circle allowed me to cover my completed background and stamp the images without getting ink on the card base. This double masking technique gives each card a window look.
I produced a video that walks you through the steps I took to create each of the cards. During the video, I’ll demonstrate the masking techniques mentioned above and will show you some quick tips for shading using Zig Clean Color Water Color Brushes. This was a super fun set of cards to create! I love the bright colors from the Oxide inks and the textured look of the background, which was achieved using the stencil. A set of cards like this would make a great hostess or thank you gift, especially if paired with some homemade cookies.
Enjoy and happy crafting!

See prize drawing info at the end of my post!
I can't believe it's already been a year and a half! My design time with The Crafters Workshop has come to an end over more than a year of designing with their amazing products. It's been a great ride! TCW has always had a special place in my heart. I sold their products when I owned a store and their stencils were the very first ones I used when I decided to try out this new art thing called mixed media. Not only do they consistently produce a wide variety of stencil designs, but last year they introduced an incredible line of mixed media products, including paints, gessos, modeling pastes, and more. A HUGE thanks to the entire TCW crew! Thank you for selecting me to be on your team and for providing me with enough products to last me a lifetime!
Above are a few photos of my last design team post. I also created a video walking you through my creative process. This was actually a really quick and easy project and it was fun to use some Prima products that have been tucked away in my stash for years. I hope you enjoy and please offer your support to TCW!
And since this is my last TCW design team post, leave a comment on this post by July 28 to be entered into a drawing for a set of free stencils! Be sure to leave your contact info so that I can reach you if you're the winner!

It's a brand new class! I'm excited to announce my second Big Picture Class, which was just released on the BPC website, Mixed Media Technique Tags 1.
This class features products from Wendy Vecchi, Ranger, & Stampers Anonymous. During the class I'll teach five inspiring techniques that can be used as a foundation for cards, tags, art journals, and more. You'll learn how to create a faux gilded look, splattered plaster effect, and beautiful backgrounds utilizing Archival Inks, and Distress Spray Stains. After this class, you'll be applying these mixed media techniques to all your projects.
Here's a sneak peek of the tags that will be created during the class.
In order to take this class you need to sign up for a Big Picture Class membership, which is only $9.99/month. Your subscription fee not only grants you access to my classes, but it also allows you to participate in any of the BPC classes posted on the site. Class options include mixed media, scrapbooking, card making, photography, DIY, and more! BPC also features a host of the industry's well known instructors. Each BPC class is taught via pre-recorded videos so you can learn at your own pace. Videos remain active and live for as long as you have an active membership so there's no rush to finish a class. You can also purchase products needed for classes directly through the BPC web site. All that you need to learn and grow as an artist is all in one place!

The background was created using Distress Oxide inks and a stencil. The bouquet was colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.
I used the new Distress Oxide inks (I love them!) to add color to the background and then stamped the waves in the same Broken China ink. The boats and anchor were stamped on piece of cardstock, colored, cut out, and attached with gel medium.
