Hey, Birthday Girl Scrapbook Layout

Hi all! I hope that everyone out there in blog land is doing well and have been able to get your crafty on this past week! Crafting is a rather slow process for me now, as I only have a few hours each week to devote to making pretty things and using fun products, but I'm glad that I was able to create this page. Funny, my birthday is in mid-August, when I started this page, and I just finished it a few days ago. Phew! That said, is was joyful to be able to create and to contemplate what drove this page...my last year in my 50's! I can hardly believe it, but next year I turn 60! When the Bible says that live is but a vapor...I think it might have been an exaggeration. LOL! It feels like less than a vapor lately - time is passing more and more quickly the older I get. But, I am so grateful for another year of life - what a tremendous blessing!

As with my last page, this one features a lot of older products, but some newer ones as well. I'm fortunate to live fairly close to the Butterfly Reflections Ink stamp store and so after I shop I create a basket of new goodies that need to be used. Some of the dies on this week's project are from that "new to me" basket.

And now for true confessions - this picture was from a few years ago. *wink* I had to laugh as I was looking through my photos, realizing that not only are there not many photos of me, there are even fewer with just me and even less of just me that are worth putting on a scrapbook page. LOL! This was a random selfie I took a few years ago on a business trip. It was more about capturing the moment to post on Instagram, with other photos from the trip, vs. just taking a picture but I thought that the bright yellow shirt worked with the yellow in the paper so this is the one I choose.

I hope you enjoy this week's page! I actually just ordered a new stamp set so maybe a card video will be up next... Check out the full project video below and happy crafting!

Stampotique Guest Designer - All About Pets Card

Happy Meow Day, friends! (I'm not sure that's an actual holiday...but it should be!) I'm back for week three of my Stampotique guest designer spot and am excited that we're continuing last week's theme of All About Pets. One cat is good, but it's not as fabulous as 50 cats! And while I don't have a video for you today, I am going to share step-by-step photos of today's card, which is super simple to create and includes a fun technique. So let's go!

I'm starting out with my Mini Misti, Neenah Solar White cardstock, Post-in Note tape, and Wendy Vecchi Archival Ink in my all time favorite color, Watering Can. While you don't need to have a Misti for this technique it is helpful. You will also want to use Archival Inks if you intend to watercolor as this ink is water proof. Lastly, the Stampotique stamps are wood mounted stamps, which would normally be impossible to use with a Misti. However, you can remove the red rubber from the blocks and simply use double sided tape to hold them on your stamping block. Easy peasy!

I started by stamping one row of cats and them stamping a second time (without re-inking) on to the Post-It Note tape. Next, I fussy cut out the row of cats, use the mask to cover the first row of cats, and re-stamp the next row of stamps. Notice that I only masked off the heads of the cats because that's all I needed.
Once you're done, you have an entire card full of cats!! I did trim down this piece of cardstock a bit so that there wasn't as much white space around the edges. Now to get working on my focal point image.

I stamped another row of cats on a second piece of cardstock, and used Distress Inks to watercolor one cat image. (I am using watercolor paper for this project!) To use Distress Inks for watercoloring, simple smoosh some ink from the ink pad onto a non-stick craft sheet and use a water brush to pick up the color. I'm a big fan of the water brushes with the water in the barrel, makes coloring super simple.
I fussy cut out the cat, die cut a large circle out of gray cardstock, and repeatably stamped the Purfect sentiment on the circle. I also stamped this hysterical sentiment on white cardstock and individually cut out the words.
To finish my card, I added a 2" piece of vellum to the cat card background, which was mounted to a dark gray card base. I then attached the circle, cat, and sentiment using foam tape. A few sparkly gems added the finishing touch to this sassy kitty card. (And my cat is painted like our cat, Sasha.) Super fun project, I hope you enjoyed! Happy Crafting!

Alcohol Ink Background Technique & Video

Hello crafty friends! I hope that you're having a wonderful holiday season. Thanks to a reduced work schedule (yeah for vacation time!), I have found more free time to create just for fun...that's the best crafting time! I had a bunch of tags left over from the LetterIT release and decided I wanted to use them in an art journal layout. The above project, combined with an alcohol ink background technique, was the perfect way to spend an afternoon! Close up photos below, along with a video and a link to my Big Picture Classes, which features the alcohol ink technique along with four others, all developed by Wendy Vecchi and focused on using her fabulous products! (All techniques demonstrated with Wendy's permission!) Happy Crafting!

Reverse Stamping Technique with Wendy Vecchi Products

Tap, tap...is this thing on? I know, my crafty friends, it has been ages since I've posted on my blog. Hopefully I still have a few readers, who have stubbornly refused to believe that I was gone for good. LOL! I am still around and occasionally crafting, but with my new full time job it has been challenging to find the time or energy to craft. But this week...this week I have not one, but two projects to share!

The first is a tag featuring new products from Wendy Vecchi. These new goodies were announced in the September time frame and Wendy was kind enough to send me a few products to try. This tag features her new coffee mug mat minis, which are so adorable! This set of mat minis is sure to be one of my favorites. The mug and the pink background feature a transfer technique using Wendy's new Reverse stamp. I love this stamp and can't wait to share even more techniques using this new product. A close up of my tag is below, along with a step-by-step video, and links to where to purchase the products I used on today's tag. I hope you enjoy! Happy crafting!

Wendy Vecchi Wednesday - Mini Album Featuring Mat Minis and Alcohol Ink Technique

Hello friends and welcome to another Wendy Vecchi Wednesday! WVW (Can I create an acronym? It's clear I've been in high tech for too long...the place where everything is turned into an acronym. *giggle*) is a special post where I create a project using Wendy's fabulous products.

This week's creation is a tiny album, measuring only 2.5" x 2.5" in size. I've got a thing for working in miniature lately. Maybe because I'm running out of space in my studio and I can't fit anything too large...LOL! Whatever the case, I had a great time making this tiny piece that features a bunch of Wendy's Mat Minis and a background technique using Wendy's Archival Inks.

I created a video of the creation of this piece and I hope you enjoy! Happy Crafting!

Finished size:
-Covers - 2.5" x 2.5"
-Inside page - 2 1/8" x 8 1/2" (scored every 2 1/8")

Supplies:
-Mat Minis (Wait until you see the new ones!)

Wendy Vecchi Wednesday - Art Journal Spread

Hi friends! Welcome to what I hope will be a weekly or every other week post showcasing Wendy Vecchi products. WooHoo! I've had this idea in my mind since attending one of Wendy's classes at the Papercraft Clubhouse in Westbook, CT last summer, but it's been challenging to find the time to regularly craft. Maybe if I make this concept public it will help me to stay on track and get in the studio more often!

It's no secret that I'm a huge Wendy Vecchi fan and feel that she is one of a kind when it comes to designers (and all around fabulous people!) in that her work is truly unique. Not only are her projects distinct, but she consistently works to develop new and innovative techniques using existing products (or developing new ones!) Wendy is someone who primarily develops her own techniques vs. re-inventing existing ones. Her techniques are born out of her own ideas and time spend playing with products and how they interact. As someone whose brain doesn't work that way, I find her way of creating imaginative and inspiring. That's one of the reasons I'd like to highlight her products and techniques...to help showcase her talents.

By the way, if you've never taken one of Wendy's class...find one and sign up! You'll be so surprised by the depth of detail that goes into her art. And if you haven't been to Tracie's store, Papercraft Clubhouse, then get going! She has a beautiful, large location filled to the brim with lots of mixed media, card making, and scrapbooking supplies. I was giddy to be back in an actual store again, since there aren't any brick and mortar stores near me (insert wailing) and during Wendy's class, I shopped during every single break! OK...enough chatting, let's get down to business!

This project was created using a ton of Wendy's products, see links at the end of the post, and while I had hoped to have a video to go along with this spread my files were corrupted during the upload process. UGH! I thought about not even sharing this without the video, but I didn't want to skip this fun project, and I'll do my best to jot down my step by step process.
I'm working in a small (5" x 8") Dylusions journal and I started by painting the edges of two pages with Distress Paint. Once the paint was dry I used one of Wendy's background stamps (Ticking) and Cornflower Blue Archival Ink to add the stripes. I love the stripes over the painted background!

Next, I got to work on my two main panels, which were created using Specialty Stamping Paper. I used a re-inker technique developed by Wendy (you can see her technique video here) to create the beautiful swirls of color you see in the photo below. Then I added a few layers of design, using Wendy's Archival Inks and stencils from The Crafters Workshop. For even more texture, I added some stamping using Wendy's Mesh background stamp. I also added some leaf stamping behind the flowers. This gave my vase the appearance of a fuller bouquet.

Once my layers were completed I got to work on adding a few extra elements as well as working on the vase and flowers. The license plate image was stamped on Wendy's newsprint paper, using her License Plate Art stamp set. The tiny hearts are from her Mat Mini collection, I colored the hearts with a Copic marker, and the strings are hand drawn. The bird, perched on the license plates, is another mat mini, and it has been stamped with its coordinating stamp, which is how it gets all of that great design. I just colored the mat mini with a few Distress Inks after stamping the bird.

To create the flowers and vase, I first adhered a piece of newsprint to a piece of Clearly for Art and then stamped the images onto the newsprint. I used Copic markers to color the images and then cut each image out. I also stamped a few extra flowers so I could layer them for extra dimension.

When you heat Clearly for Art it softens and you can mold the flowers and vase into a shape. This really helps to bring the flowers to life, and I was even able to bend the vase in a way that it appears slightly rounded. So much fun!

Once the pieces were attached to my pages, I added some glossy accents and Wink of Stellar glitter pen to a few areas on both pages, and added tiny gold pearls to the middle of each flower. Adding the sentiment was the final step.

Whew...if you're still with me, congratulations! I know this was a lengthy post. Sorry about that! Creating videos has been so much fun, as it cuts down on so much copy and let's you just watch the process. Hoping to get a new video, featuring Wendy's products, up in a week or two. Until then...I hope you enjoyed today's art journal spread...happy crafting!
