This week over on the SALT blog it was Hazel's turn to choose the topic for and she chose Contentment. You can read Hazel's write up on the verses that inspired her challenge here.
My quick search through the Bible on verses focusing on contentment yielded three passages that I was drawn to; Philippians 4:11, Hebrews 13:5, and I Timothy 6:6. I chose to focus on I Timothy because of the almost forcefulness of the text, no fluffy words there! This portion of scripture should cut to the heart and make us really examine what we desire most in this life.
My ATC states the first line of the passage, "Now godliness with contentment is great gain" but I included the entire passage on the back of the card. This would serve as a great memory verse!
The background paper is from a pack of Martha Stewart paper that I picked up on sale. I love the patterns in this pack but was surprised at how lightweight the paper is...I layered the dictionary definition of contentment onto the background paper (after stamping a few swirlies...you just can't live without swirls!). I added a row of coordinating buttons down the entire length of the card and then attached a scalloped circle around the word contentment. The cutie butterfly is from a SU! set, whose name is escaping me right now. :-) The butterfly dots have been Stickled (is that a word?? LOL!) and the first part of the verse cut out and glued to the bottom. Here's the entire verse:
"Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil (**note** money isn't evil just the love of it), for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Kind of heavy stuff for a crafting blog...I know...but I can't help myself...sometimes I'm a deep thinker! LOL!
Enjoy!

What a beautifully crafted ATC, but, perhaps more important is the message that it contains - as you say, deep stuff - this topic made me think deeply too
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely wonderful - and thought provoking card

ReplyDeleteThis is just stunnning! Love it and all the dimension you have added!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful - very inspiring too and I think I should do this more too - it's like meditating on Bible verses and creating at the same time - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI really liked the I Timothy 6 verses as well. They are so true and so simply put, like you said, no fluff. Your ATC is beautiful.

I think you did not put this card up right away, correct? I had planned originally to use this same verse, because it's really been speaking to me lately, especially in the context of the whole chapter. I like your placement of embellishments as well. Great card!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this! That butterfly rocks!!!
