This week it was Hazel's turn to set the challenge on the SALT blog and she chose:
'Encouragement'
"On the Salt we have been very encouraged by your comments and by the wonderful creations that you have shown us as, together, we have combined our faith and our love of crafting. I love that verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:11: 'Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.' - in fact, there is so much about encouragement in those letters, and indeed, in other letters from Paul. Encouragement is such a blessing to receive and also to give."
Just reading this verse is encouraging as I think of my many dear Christian friends throughout the world and how we're "knit together in love" through Christ. There is a peace in knowing that friends will pray for you in times of trouble and that they will love you as their sister (or brother) and your hurts will be their hurts. This is a truly special gift that God grants to us and it is a blessing and comfort.
Details of the card:
*Deep blue background cardstock by Bazzill (isn't this a great color?)
*Second layer of Basic Brown, which has been stamped (hard to see in the photo) with a sanded background...my new favorite background stamp
*Bible page has been photocopied, aged, and stamped with a swirly background page (I felt a bit awkward about "crumbling" a page of the Bible, even though it was a photocopy!!) :-)
*Bible page layered with a piece of acetate, which was aged with brown acrylic paint
*Layer of patterned paper (K&Company), tied with wide brown grosgrain ribbon, and a stick pin accent (how fun is that?? First time using one of those from SU!)
*Tag and bird cut out and attached with dimensional tape
Now to find that special someone, who is in need of some special encouragement, to send my card to...I have the perfect person in mind... :-)
We'd love to see your take on this challenge so please leave us a comment on the SALT blog when you are finished your piece, so that we and others may see your work. To get you inspired visit the team on the SALT blog who have come up with some beautiful pieces.
Have an Encouraging Day!

For this challenge I thought that a card would be a good option as a card is a wonderful way to send a word of encouragement to another. The scripture verse that served as the foundation for my card is from Colossians 2:2, a portion of which is noted on the tag on my card. The entire section, Colossians 2:1-3, was photocopied from my Bible and adhered to the background of my card.

This is absolutely beautiful, and that verse is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! And I am so glad you did the Bible pages! I was given a Bible that was literally falling apart, pages missing, binding dying, etc. I tore one passage out to use on a card, but just couldn't do it! That was a couple of years ago, and I still have the Bible. Now I have the boldness to actually use it, thanks to you!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Kim!! I love the verse you chose!
ReplyDeleteThis is just an absolutely gorgeous card, the receipient will be very blessed!
